Jorginho reveals Mikel Arteta twice tried to sign him for Arsenal
Italian midfielder Jorginho has revealed that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tried to sign him on two separate occasions.
The 29-year-old, who is currently playing for Chelsea, said that Arteta first tried to sign him when he was in charge of Manchester City in 2018.
"I remember when I was at Napoli, Arteta came to watch me play," Jorginho told Sky Sports. "He came to watch me play against Manchester City, and he was very interested in signing me.
"Then, when he went to Arsenal, he tried to sign me again. I was very close to joining Arsenal, but in the end, I decided to stay at Chelsea.
"I have a lot of respect for Arteta. He's a great manager, and I think he's doing a great job at Arsenal."
Jorginho's revelation comes amid Arsenal's ongoing search for a new midfielder. The Gunners have been linked with a number of players, including Jorginho's Chelsea teammate N'Golo Kante.
However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be able to sign Jorginho or any other midfielder before the transfer window closes on September 1.
