French Open 2023: Osaka and Alcaraz begin campaigns on day one

Former world No 1s Naomi Osaka and Carlos Alcaraz are among the star attractions on day one of the French Open, as the second Grand Slam of the year gets under way at Roland Garros.

Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, will be looking to add to her tally when she faces Amanda Anisimova in the first round. The Japanese player has not won a tournament since the Australian Open in 2021, but she will be hoping to find her form on the clay courts of Paris.

Alcaraz, the reigning US Open champion, is also in action on day one, as he takes on Juan Ignacio Londero. The 19-year-old Spaniard is one of the most exciting players in the men's game, and he will be looking to make a deep run at Roland Garros this year.

Other players to watch on day one include Jelena Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champion, and Andrey Rublev, the Russian who is currently ranked eighth in the world.
